Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5

This is the perfect class to start from the beginning to the end as it relates to decimals. We will review EVERYTHING from place value to rounding, equivalency, comparing, sorting with plenty of practice using decimals with operations: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. During the sessions with operations, learners will also practice solving one and two-step word problems. Learners can sign-up for the sessions that address their specific needs. This is a comprehensive course directed to help your learner become more confident when working with decimals. 

There is no pre-requisite knowledge required and the classes do not build on each other.  Students from grades 3-7 can participate in the course, depending on their skill level and interest.

Week of Jun 5  | Topic - Understanding Decimals. Review place value, equivalency, comparing, sorting, and rounding.
Week of Jun 12  | Topic - Adding and Subtracting Decimals. Add and subtract decimals with the same/different place values as well as regrouping (carrying and borrowing numbers). Word problems will also be covered.
Week of Jun 19 | Topic - Multiplying Decimals. Multiply decimals with the same and different place values.
Week of Jun 26  | Topic - Dividing Decimals. Multiply decimals with the same and different place values.

Learning Goals

Throughout this course, learners will get practice with: 
- place value, visual representations, and rounding.
- comparing (greater, less, or equal to) and sort in ascending to descending.
- add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals. 
- solve word problems

Hello! My name is Ms. Ann and I have been a teacher for over a decade in the beautiful state of VA. I have taught several grades in both Elementary and Middle School. I love to teach. I think the best part of teaching is sharing my knowledge on a variety of subjects and helping students make connections to previous experiences or existing background knowledge.  

I am a certified teacher in all core subjects: math, history, science, and language arts (grades K-8, Algebra, and gifted education), but my love has always been Math. I believe that successful teaching includes building relationships, interest, and engagement with students. When students are interested in the topic, they are more willing to participate, ask questions, and ultimately master the content.
