Class Experience

In this class, we will work together to create interactive notebooks to go alongside our journey through Early Modern History! Each class, we will put together the notebook pages for one chapter of the history book we have covered to-date. This is a purely supplemental, but fun, activity for students who would like to continue to learn and reinforce Early Modern History between semesters of Curiosity Chronicles: Early Modern History. This class will be very much round table discussion as we work together to decide correct answers to questions, and what we remember about each chapter.

Our planned activities will cover the second twelve chapters of the text, from "England Picks a Religion" to "England Starts Colonizing for God and Gold." The activities in this notebook will be provided for the student ahead of time. Students will be absolutely welcome to draw their own activities should they wish to (or if parents do not wish to print!). By the end of the year, we will have completed activities for all the chapters in the text, allowing for a fun and colorful review of each chapter of our learning, as well as a portfolio of what was covered in History this year!

Our general class outline:
Class 1: Ganga Zumba Builds a Kingdom (cut and color a lift-the-flap book, assemble a culture corner envelope)
Class 2: Queen Ana Nzinga Rejects the Portuguese (color and cut a puzzle)
Class 3: Europe Goes Baroque (color and cut a lift the flap book)

Parental Guidance
This class will involve using scissors and glue, as well as markers and/or crayons. Any potentially emotionally charged expressions around issues in history and/or events occurring to marginalized communities will be handled with sensitivity. Children will be invited to look at issues from all sides, and together we will determine what impacts different decisions had on the communities involved - with the actual impact on the marginalized community firmly at the fore.
