Description
Class Experience
I am a geeky parent to a geeky kid, a gamer wife to a gamer husband - and I love engaging in games and geekery with kids!
Learners will need their own Roblox account if they want to play along!
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Roblox is a gaming platform that attracts players of all ages and brings with it the risks of online space. During class time, I monitor students' interactions with other players, but parents should also routinely check their students' Roblox account activity to ensure their students are playing in a safe manner. I routinely remind students of basic rules of online safety, such as not giving out personal contact information to people online, but I only have your student for one hour a week. If you would like more information on cybersafety on Roblox, please let me know! We will also regularly review the concepts of "no money for nothing," and "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" as they apply to online interactions. I will also reinforce the necessity of parents checking in on players' accounts, and having open communication with parents in the event of unwelcome messaging. Again, these are concepts to reinforce with your students, as I only see them one hour per week. Please note that I will never communicate with students directly through the Roblox platform, in class or out. I use Outschool and Zoom for all teacher-student communications. I will not respond to messages students send me on Roblox. I use Roblox solely for educational purposes, so while your students may be excited to see I am online and in a game, please remind them that I am teaching other classes during this time, and that those students require my full attention during class, just as your student receives my full attention during their class.
