US Grade 1 - 4
This is the first in a series of year-long History classes, specifically covering Ancient History. This class uses the Curiosity Chronicles curriculum to teach Ancient History for 1st to 5th graders. Curiosity Chronicles teaches history via conversation between two main characters - Mona and Ted - allowing for the study of history to feel more fun than academic! The student textbook and activity guide will be provided for at home use. I teach in a Socratic style, preferring to ask students for their thoughts instead of imparting my own. As a result, classes tend to be discussion-based. Each week, we will read a chapter of the student text and complete the student activity pages. The first meeting each week will focus on the textbook work, and we will work on a timeline, complete map work, and finish any coloring pages in the second meeting. Our general class outline: Week 1: History is Cool Week 2: Humans Start Hunting and Gathering Week 3: Mesopotamia Starts Farming Week 4: Egypt Gets United Week 5: Sumer Starts Inventing Week 6: The Indus Valley Builds Cities Week 7: Caral Plays Music Week 8: Egypt Prepares for the Afterlife Week 9: Egypt Builds Pyramids Week 10: Britain Builds Megaliths Week 11: Yu Fights the River Week 12: Austronesia Sets Sail Week 13: Aboriginals Fish in Australia Week 14: Babylon Makes Laws Students will have the option to read aloud or follow along, at their comfort level. This class is intended as an elementary history class, so while additional resources are listed in the textbook, we will cover them only as time permits. Students will need access to their textbook and each chapter's activity guide materials while in class.
Learning Goals
Students will gain an understanding of Ancient History. They will learn where civilizations started, and create a timeline to understand how many civilizations came into being simultaneously.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Care, and I am a teacher by trade. I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent children - specifically those with ADHD, Anxiety, ASD, and gifted diagnoses. I love reading, knitting, Final Fantasy XIV, and Bluey!
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education earned from Northern Illinois University. My teaching certificate is now out of date, as I have relocated to Canada. I have a wonderful spouse, and we have a thirteen year old child. Our household is body-positive, rainbow-themed, and neurodiverse. I enjoy spending time with kids, and talking with them to discover new ideas together.
In my classroom, learners and their families have the right to:
- Be treated with dignity and respect regardless of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, neurology, marital status, or sexual orientation
- A safe and healthy environment
- Be treated as your learner’s most important people
- Receive timely communication about the learner’s temperament, behavior, compliments and concerns
I am not perfect, but I do my best to try to help everyone feel included and accepted for who they are at all times!
