Class Experience

Sometimes, reading a book can be so amazing that we want to jump in and join the world. In Becoming Warrior Cats, kids will spend 60 minutes working cooperatively with others - as a clan - to achieve their goals. We will take on different activities and challenges, talk about our favorite cats, strategies, and tactics, and why we like them. If we are to function as a clan, everyone's voice is important, and all will be invited to share their ideas and opinions - and we will work together to make sure our conversations are respectful.

This class will focus on developing conversation skills and problem solving abilities, as well as learning to work together to accomplish goals. Everyone will have the option to share their ideas, as well as support them. Learners will need their own Roblox account, as well as access to Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition for this class. As this class will be entirely student-driven, there is no set weekly schedule.

That said.

Becoming Warrior Cats is a place for every cat to gather, represent their clan, and work together to ensure the survival of not only their clan, but the forest as a whole. SpeckleStar of RiverClan will be present at all times to ensure that the clan survives. Warriors will be asked to defend camp, and hunt for the Clan. They will be tasked with training apprentices, bringing fresh-kill for every cat, and working as a team to keep camp safe from Twolegs, rogues, and potential invaders. Apprentices will be asked to try their hardest to learn the skills every cat needs for survival and how to live by the Warrior Code. Cats of other clans are welcome to help populate the forest, and to help solve the problems of Twolegs taking over our forest.

RP guidelines: Every cat is required to play fairly and kindly. This does not mean all cats are good - there can still be evil cats! It means all players must treat each other well. The clan will be split between Warriors and Apprentices. Volunteers will be taken for roles such as Medicine Cat and Kit. Elders will be played after approval by SpeckleStar. As RiverClan is just getting itself established, StarClan has granted SpeckleStar a One Time Exception - a deputy must be appointed, but it does not need to be before moonhigh, and instead must be before end of first class period.

Parental Guidance
Roblox is a game that attracts players of all ages and can bring with it the risks of online space. During class time, I monitor students' interactions with other players in our server, but parents should also routinely check in with their students' Roblox activity to ensure their students are playing in a safe manner. I routinely remind students of basic rules of online safety, such as not giving out personal contact information to people online, but I only have your student for one hour a week. If you would like more information on cybersafety on Roblox, please let me know! We will also regularly review the concepts of fair play and "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" as they apply to online interactions. I will also reinforce the necessity of parents checking in on players and having open communication with parents in the event of unwelcome messaging. Again, these are concepts to reinforce with your students, as I only see them one hour per week. Please note that I will never communicate with students directly through Roblox, in class or out. I use Outschool and Zoom for all teacher-student communications. I use our classroom server solely for educational purposes. Please be advised that usernames will be required for this class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Care, and I am a teacher by trade. I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent children - specifically those with ADHD, Anxiety, ASD, and gifted diagnoses. I love reading, knitting, Final Fantasy XIV, and Bluey!

I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education earned from Northern Illinois University. My teaching certificate is now out of date, as I have relocated to Canada. I have a wonderful spouse, and we have a thirteen year old child. Our household is body-positive, rainbow-themed, and neurodiverse. I enjoy spending time with kids, and talking with them to discover new ideas together.

In my classroom, learners and their families have the right to:
- Be treated with dignity and respect regardless of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, neurology, marital status, or sexual orientation
- A safe and healthy environment
- Be treated as your learner’s most important people
- Receive timely communication about the learner’s temperament, behavior, compliments and concerns

I am not perfect, but I do my best to try to help everyone feel included and accepted for who they are at all times!
