The four-lesson hands-on class introduces learners to: the parts of the Microsoft Word screen, ribbon, commands, icons, character formatting, copy and paste, borders and shading, alignment, print orientation, selecting text and others. This class includes worksheets for learners to complete either in class or as homework. This is a segment of the technology applications class that I taught in middle school for 20 years. I wrote the curriculum based on skill requirements set by the state of Texas. The Word portion is divided into two basic parts. The learners will create documents with me in this hands-on experience. Lesson 1 – Word screen, icons, groups and tabs Lesson 2 – Learning the ribbon, discovering what’s under the tabs, dialogue box launcher Lesson 3 – Character formatting, spacing, selecting text, bullets and numbers Lesson 4 – Columns, setting tabs Needed for this class: Computer with video, sound and document saving capability, newer version of Microsoft Word (2019 or Office 365), access to separate device (phone or tablet) so the student is able to work along with the instructor step-by-step through instruction.
Learning Goals
Student will become familiar with Microsoft Word program to enable them to implement skills to perform required tasks.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have 20 years of experience teaching computer applications including all of the Microsoft Office Suite at the middle and high school level and 17 years at the college level. I have a Master of Science degree in Computer Education and Cognitive Systems.
