Critical Reading Comprehension Skills - 3rd/4th Grade Part B

Reading comprehension is key.  In this one time, skilled based class, students will read short story passages that I have developed and answer questions such as:  Which word or phrase fits best in the blanks, which is the best sentence to put at the end of the passage, which sentence is the topic sentence, where would this sentence fit best, what is an opinion, and what is the purpose of the passage? Tips on how to answer multiple choice questions will also be covered.  This class is a continuation of the original class.  However, you do not need to take the original session to register for this class. The story passages and questions are different giving the learner more opportunity to practice higher level comprehension skills.  We will also discuss the motivation of a character - the how and the why.  This takes a deeper level of comprehension than just answering questions about details and involves critical thinking skills.  We will read the story passages together and decide which answer is the best choice and why.  It is helpful if your learner has a reading level appropriate for their grade or age level.  Your student will get the most benefit from the class if they are willing to interact as we look at the passages presented. I keep the class small, so that every learner can get the attention needed, and I teach in a relaxed manner.  Class Rules:  We mute so we do not talk over one another, we are kind and respectful to everyone we meet, we raise our hand if we have a comment or question, and per Outschool rules, the camera must be turned on during the beginning of class so I may verify the learner.
