Description
Class Experience
In this one time course, students will learn how to construct a debate case using some of the basic terms and strategies used in competitive debate. Students will be presenting their cases, rebutting their opponents’ cases, asking opponents questions, and persuading the instructor to vote for their cases to win during an in session debate. The topic will be announced after the instructor introduces the students to the format, rules, and the basic “how to” of debate. Previous topics...
1. Students will learn how to write and defend a basic intro level debate case prepared during the class session under the instructor’s supervision. 2. Students will participate in a Fun debate during the session. 3. Students will learn the definitions of the following debate terms: contention, evidence, flowing, cross examination, and persuasion.
No homework for this course No prerequisite or previous experience with debate for this course
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The students will receive feedback after each round of speaking and at the end of the debate when the winner is declared.
1 hour per week in class, and no time outside of class.
