In this one-on-one tutoring class, students will develop critical comprehension skills of Literary texts tailored to their needs and learning style. Many students struggle with comprehension, but with guidance and practice, they can learn steps to make understanding and recall easier. Learners will be taught how to analyze literary texts with confidence, focusing on skills like inference, prediction, identifying themes, understanding cause and effect, and exploring tone, character, and resolution.Topics include literary elements (setting, conflict, point of view, and theme), analysis techniques (compare and contrast, inference, and prediction), and overall reading comprehension strategies. The session begins with a brief introduction to the day's focus, followed by engaging activities such as discussion, games, and text analysis exercises. Each class concludes with a wrap-up to reflect on what was learned and set goals for the next session. This class uses interactive methods to keep learners engaged. Activities include games to reinforce concepts, video clips to illustrate ideas, guided text readings, and discussions to deepen understanding. My teaching style is patient, supportive, and adaptable. I cater to individual needs, including ADHD and dyslexia, and tailor each session to build on the learner's strengths while addressing challenges. Learners will interact with me continuously throughout the session through guided discussions, interactive games, and personalized feedback. Active participation is encouraged to foster a deeper understanding of the material.
Learning Goals
Learners will strengthen their reading comprehension by developing skills to analyze text structure, infer meaning, identify key ideas, and connect concepts—building confidence and critical thinking for understanding diverse texts.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As an elementary librarian with 20 years of experience, I am deeply passionate about fostering a love for reading and learning in children. I teach class everyday, all day for grades K - 5.
In addition to my role as a librarian, I tutor both in person and online for grades K-12, specializing in students with dyslexia. I employ sensory approaches based on Fountas and Pinnell, Soar to Success, and the Wilson Reading Program to ensure each student's unique needs are met. My goal is to make literature accessible for all students, while valuing diversity and inclusiveness in every lesson. I have worked as a Reading Interventionist, ran several book clubs for young people, and have attended a plethora of training on turning kids into readers. I also have experience with ADHD, delayed processing disorder, and other unique learning abilities.
