Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
Circle time was common in elementary school and teachers touch base with students; prompting them to communicate their feelings, share their lives, and set the tone for the day. This is a valuable practice that should continue throughout our lives.

In this on-going social class, we will cultivate a space where we can practice our social skills and talk about our classes, our adventures, our successes & struggles, and how we're feeling. We will focus on communication skills, seeking connections & community, as we listen, reflect, support, give feedback, and grow.

Each week, we will crack open our journals and begin with a brief reflection and centering exercise. Our individual work can be expressed as a sketch, a paragraph, a poem, or diagram. Scaffolding will be available with sentence frames, outlines, word banks, and visual & language supports. Each student will have the opportunity to share their reflection with group and receive feedback and support. We will end with examining our common themes, thoughts, and feelings, and a positive affirmation.

Students will select their own topic directly each week.
Possible topics include:
One struggle & One success
Friendship
Adventure
School
My Future Self
My Community

We don't have to be on the same topic to find ourselves on the same page.

I have many years of experience leading online clubs and in the community and have learned the value of helping diverse groups communicate their feelings and find their common threads. Whether it's in the public school (general education or special), college classroom, the community group, or at work, we all need a place to feel valued and practice expressing ourselves in a healthy manner and listening, and lending support.
