Social Skills for Little Learners

Ages 4-6
Live Group Course
In this 3-week course we will meet each morning to learn about important social skills. We will focus on feelings, friendship & self-regulation.

Mastery Evaluation
1-2 hours per week. My only request is that as parents you are aware of the skills we are working on so that as the children go on with their days between classes that you can encourage your child to name their feelings, remember what a good friend is, and how to use calm down strategies in their daily lives. The more they practice naturally in their every day lives the more skilled they will become at these important social skills.
Grading
I will not provide a specific grade. I will informally be assessing your child on the last day of our class together to see what knowledge they were able to gather from the course.

Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
In this 3 session course we will discuss some basics of preschool social skills. We will be learning about feelings, friendship & self-regulation skills. Each session will include a different topic but we will incorporate our learning from the previous class into the next. 

My Teaching style is structured yet flexible. I always come with a plan and a back up plan. BUT I will also base my class off of the needs of most of the students. I want the learning to be meaningful to them as well as fun.

These classes will include an interactive read aloud, discussions, and interactive games/activities.

Lesson 1:
Feelings
 1. Read a book relating to basic feelings
2. Discuss our feelings
3. Draw/write our feelings
4. Play a name the feeling game

Lesson 2:
Friendship
 1. Read a book about friendship
2. Play a game discussing things a friend does or does not do 
3. Brainstorm ways we can be good friends to people in our lives/name examples of people who are good friends
4. Discuss how it makes us feels when we have good friends/are being a good friend

Lesson 3:
Self-regulation
 1. Read a book about feeling angry 
2. Learn about chill skills/calm down strategies - have kids share any that they like to use or know of
3. Practice the different chill skills 
4. Pretend we are having different feelings or in various situations. Discuss how we are feeling. If it is a big feeling how can we use a chill skills to feel better. 
5. Go over what the kids have learned in the last 3 sessions.

Please have a piece of paper or something your child can draw on. As well as something to write and draw with.

I teach these skills daily to children with special needs. I have spent almost 7 years working on these skills with children of all ages and abilities. This is a topic I am passionate about because these are skills all children can benefit from and will use their entire lives.
