Beginner Level
I have adapted the PEERS® curriculum to provide a 10-week social skills intervention for ages 8-11 who are interested in learning new ways of making and keeping friends. During each group session, students are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills in session during socialization activities. This class may be appropriate for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression or other social and behavioral disorders. Each week students are introduced to a new concept via PowerPoint slides, videos, and dialogue and then get the opportunity to practice that skill in class. Students will learn how to: • Use appropriate conversational skills • Use humor appropriately • Use electronic communication • Enter & exit conversations • Be a good host during get-togethers • Handle arguments and disagreements • Change a bad reputation • Handle rumors and gossip • Handle rejection, teasing, and bullying Note: Dates are for an example schedule only.
