This is a beginner course to introduce students to the game of chess. Our semi private classes, expert instruction, and personalized approach nurture critical thinking in a fun, engaging way and build their critical and strategic thinking.

1 hour per week. We have all our live classes automatically recorded. We recommend learners to review the recordings and practice those strategies
Assessment
The class is designed to have continuous discussions and reviews on the game we play including strategies we learn using puzzles.

Chess is a beautiful game which helps in critical and logical thinking. The students who learn chess develop spatial skills and have shown marked increase in IQ, memory, concentration and problem solving skills.

This class will introduce them to the game of chess and help them learn the basic level game. Apart from introducing the chess board, the moves of the chess pieces, the lessons will focus on:

Day 1 :Understanding the chess board , Piece introduction and Chess board setup 

Day 2 : Piece Movements begin with King , Rook, Bishop, Queen, Knight 

Day 3 : Special Moves –Pawn movement and capturing puzzles , show a basic start. 

Day 4 : Protection (ABCD) and Combat and points of pieces  – Introduce game play 

Day 5 : Check and getting out of check and the term check mate 

Day 6 : Checkmate in 1 move  puzzles and Castling 

Day 7 :  En-passant  and Castling puzzles , Pawn promotion 

Day 8 :Opening  principles 
   
Day 9 : Legal moves and illegal moves and basics of draw by threefold repetition and  stalemate . How to offer a draw and decline. 

Day 10: Game play analysis and checkmate puzzles and introduction of level 2 like “don’t just check” where giving check should be avoided  

Practice on the rules of castling, creating mate in one move , taking a piece which is attacked twice, understanding favorable exchange would also be focused on.
Students will learn strategies on Draw, Mate and Stalemate and will be able to use the Winning Tactics. 

Lessons will be included to help students understand the notations as well. Teaching will be done through digital chess games.

For game play we will use lichess. You just need to create your free account on lichess.org
Supply List
For game play we will use the anonymous play on lichess.org. The student does not have to sign in or create an account and the teacher will guide on how to send an anonymous game play link.
