1-2 hours per week. To write three different poems and share in classsClass Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
We will read three different poems, as listed below and analyze and discuss them. We will brainstorm ideas on how to write poetry with similar themes and feelings as the ones we read in class. Then the students have one week to write their poems to share in class. The poems we will read and write are: August by Tove Jansson from The Summer Book and write a poem about the changing seasons Since Hannah Moved Away by Judith Viorst and use imagery to show emotions ( for example, happiness is a cup of hot cocoa with whipped cream or sadness fades the colors in the world) Foot Falls by Sharon Creech and use the rhythm of sound to write about movement. This is the schedule. Class 1: Read and discuss August by Tove Jansson and brainstorm ideas Class 2: Everyone shares their poems, and we give feedback Class 3: Read and discuss Since Hannah Moved Away by Judith Viorst and brainstorm ideas Class 4: Everyone shares their poems, and we give feedback Class 5: Read and discuss Foot Falls by Sharon Creech and brainstorm ideas Class 6: Everyone shares their poems, and we give feedback The poems can be found online.
