Intermediate Level
In this Swedish class, you can immerse yourself in the Swedish language and culture. The class will discuss various aspects of everyday life and current events in Sweden each week. The class will use a Swedish website with easy-to-read news articles to improve language skills. This website lets you practice reading comprehension and expand your vocabulary. Additionally, the class will provide a supportive environment for you to practice speaking Swedish with your classmates. This class is designed to be engaging, informative, and fun while helping you improve your Swedish language skills. We will start every class by discussing how everyone is doing, what the weather is like where they live, and what they have done during the day. The second part will use the 8sidor site to read a news article about Sweden. We will stay clear on international news since the class is focused on Sweden and Sweden. I will alternate the focus of the news so we will cover politics, culture, sports, and traditions/holidays in Sweden. We will read and discuss the article and its words to create a vocabulary list and practice pronunciation. We will end the class by asking everyone what they will do later that day or over the weekend, depending on when the class falls. 8sidor is a non-profit website that provides easy-to-read news articles in Swedish. The Swedish government funds the website as part of a project to offer news for everyone in Swedish, but the government does not control it.
Learning Goals
Develop a greater understanding of the Swedish language and Sweden as a country and build a larger vocabulary.
