40 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Students will need at least a gallon size bag of building bricks (having more is better). At the beginning of class I will present a challenge for them to build (we rotate through 8-10 different challenges), and they will spend about 25 minutes building their creation while being able to converse with one another and see ideas. At the end of the class each learner will share about what they created and have a chance to show it off. This course will have a different challenge each week. I do not provided guided instruction for each build. Students are encouraged to use their imagination to create something of their own. I will show examples of different building techniques for our challenges that students can incorporate into their own build. Learners can stay and repeat the challenges as much as they would like. I rotate through several challenges, but they are always welcome to stick around and build something different than they did several weeks ago. I also try to add new challenges in to the rotation as I make them or as students suggest. Each learner is encouraged to share their build to practice speaking in front of a group and using descriptive words to tell about what they have been building. They can also bring something to class each week that they have been working on outside of class if they wish. ***Reminder*** if more than one child is taking the class, all siblings must be registered. They can both be on the same device. This is a subscription class. If your learner remains subscribed, you will be charged each Sunday for the following week of class, until you unsubscribe. If we have a full class we may go over 5 minutes or so on time. Please let me know if your learner needs to leave at the allotted class end time. I want to make sure all learners have time to share. I also have a class for younger learners as well Weekly class topics Classes meeting: 7/24-7/30 Summer Olympics 7/31-8/6 Food and Plants 8/7-8/13 Islands 8/14-8/20 Bridges 8/21-8/27 Engineering (machines) 8/28-9/3 Things that fly 9/4-9/10Transportation 9/11-9/17 Books, movies or tv shows 9/18-9/24 Animals 9/25-10/1 Games 10/2-10/8 Builds primarily of one color or useful things 10/9-10/15Food and Plants 10/16-10/22Robots 10/23-10/29 Fall Themed Challenge 10/30-11/5 Sports, music or other extra curricular activities 11/6-11/12 Buildings 11/13-11/19 Things that go in space 11/20-11/26 Boats or other things that float 11/27-12/3 Things that fly 12/4-12/10 Water Themed Builds 12/11-12/17 Winter Themed Builds 12/18-12/24 Creatures These are subject to adjustment, as sometimes I receive learner input on challenges and like to incorporate those as well.
