Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Can you imagine living on the Moon? Eating space food every day. Little time to play outside, because Oxygen is a valuable resource. Dashiell Gibson's life and the life of the other Moonies, is pretty mundane until the death of one of their own lunar scientists, calls into question the safety of everyone living on Moon Based Alpha. Dashiell decides to find out what happened to his follow Moonie and bring them to justice!

I am so thrilled that your student is considering reading this book with me. The book, "Space Case" by Stuart Gibbs is a fantastic mystery for students that are in upper elementary and middle school. My own children, 11 and 14 (and me too if I'm being honest) were on the edges of our seat trying to guess who did it. The text includes discretely placed facts about the Moon that will spark the interest and fascinate people of all ages.

The success of "Space Case" led to the release of several sequels in the "Moon Base Alpha" series, including "Spaced Out" and "Waste of Space," which continue to follow Dash's adventures on the moon. Stuart Gibbs is known for his ability to blend thrilling plots, relatable characters, and humor, making his books highly popular among middle-grade readers and fans of mystery and science fiction.

It is always my hope that I am able to present a book in a way that will interest any student, even the ones that struggle with reading. If your child is not able to keep up with the reading of this book for class, I would encourage you to consider allowing your child to listen to the audiobook while following the words in a book. Students will still be able to practice reading comprehension skills in class and there is nothing like a really good book to encourage and motivate struggling readers.

This class can be enjoyed by children of various ages. My goal is to help students learn to love reading. If your student is struggling to keep up with reading this book, I have absolutely no problem with the student listening to the audiobook. The student will still be able to enjoy a great book and practice reading skills in class.

Hi! My name is Lauren, but my students call me "Best Teach". I graduated from Westminster College in 2004 with a degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, I earned my Pennsylvania English as a Second Language Program Specialist K-12 certification. I moved to Shenandoah, Virginia to teach English as a Second Language in 2006. I taught over 40 students (K-12) at 4 different schools. In 2007, I moved to the traditional first grade classroom.

Since then, I have taught in many different capacities. I have taught baby sign language to parents, online for two years as an English as a Second Language teacher, and as a homeschool tutor. My most valuable teaching experience has come as a homeschool mom. I have been teaching my neurodivergent 15 year old son and neurotypical 12 year old daughter since the day they were born.

I bring a variety of classes to Outschool, because I like to pull from all of my interests and talents.
