Each week in this on-going class students will be introduced to the trailblazers that paved the way for history to be made. Students will learn about historical figures that contributed to the progress of African-American's in our country. Students will learn the origin of how Black History Month was started, the meaning of the flag, and the impact it had on the culture. Each week we will discuss 4 historical figures and their influence on the world. Students will keep an interactive notebook to document what they have learned. During the last week of the class, students will be given the opportunity to share what their future goals and aspirations will be to help make this world a better place. Students are welcome to join any week that interests you or stay with us for several weeks to gain a broader understanding of Black History.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about historical figures in the African-American community and be able to connect with pivotal moments that impacted our nation.
Week of(February 1-5): Theme: Background Information on Black History Month
Week of( February 8-12) Theme: Why Black History is Important? Who were the key players?
Week of (February 14-19) Theme:Bridging the Gap between Generations: Old School vs. New School
Week of ( February 22-26) Theme:The impact of Historical Figures and their Relevancy
Week of (February 28-March 5) Theme: What would the Elders think of where we are today? What will be your legacy?
