Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this class, students will learn about the true nature and principles of the Black Panther Party of Self Defense. This organization, historically and presently, remains one of the most widely misunderstood groups in American history. Despite being unjustly depicted as an extremist group, the reality is quite different. We will explore how the contributions of the Black Panther Party to ending police brutality within the black community have been overlooked by history. Students will learn about the origins and motivations behind the formation of the Black Panther Party, highlighting their approach to pursuing social justice and improving colored communities. Additionally, students will gain insight into the influential leaders who shaped the Black Panther movement. We will discuss topics such as police brutality and the social status of people of color in America, recognizing the significant impact the Black Panther Party made on the American justice system. It's worth noting that the Black Lives Matter Movement drew inspiration from the Black Panther Party's commitment to recognizing the value of every life. Ultimately, the aim of this class is to inform students about the true ideals and principles of the Black Panther Party while working towards dispelling the stigma associated with their organization.

This class will be very informative and it also connects to my other African American classes. This lesson will be interactive, and each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. Participation is encouraged but not required. If you have any questions about the class or suggestions please send a message. This class could possibly go over 30 minutes, I think its important to give each student the opportunity to speak and ask questions.

I require cameras to be turned on in all of my classes, that helps me confirm that the correct student is in class.

If you prefer a 1-1 or a specific time/day please let know

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from University of North Florida
As an ESL Teacher and Tutor, I have taught classes on African American history, American Figures, Racism, and the civil rights movement for over 4 years. I have experience in teaching this subject to students in elementary, middle, and high school. I also have experience tutoring college students. I have a degree in Communications, so I will be able to communicate and teach this topic without being bias. I was able to research, write essays, and give speeches about this topic throughout college. I was trained by professionals to understand history and the issues surrounding history. Most importantly, I will allow each student to express their thoughts and opinions about this topic. This will help them communicate and show what they have learned. It is very important to include all students. I have taught African American history for 2 years. I studied communications in colleges which heavily focused on Afro and African American studies.
