Together we will make colorful rainbow cakes in a jar from an easy box mix or homemade cake mix. Students can decide whether to make a full rainbow, their school or favorite team colors, holiday colors, or any other combination! If desired, they can go full rainbow unicorn by adorning the top with a cone shaped candy, like a candy corn. I will walk through each step and provide tips and details along the way. I recommend using 8 ounce mason jars. If you don’t have the recommended size, you can use any size mason jars for your cakes - or you can even use a regular glass cake pan if you wish. During class, I will prep through all steps with learners, until putting them in the oven. Class will end before baking times are done for all bakers. Before we end the meeting, we will share the different toppings that each student has prepared for their cakes! Be creative and as artistic as you want to be! Learners should have the ability to crack eggs and use a hand mixer (or have an older helper nearby to assist as needed). Students will also be using the oven, so parents should be sure that the student knows how to safely operate the oven and handle the hot contents after baking is complete or have parents available to help.
Learning Goals
This class serves as a walk-through for taking something simple (cake mix) and using art and creativity to make it something extraordinary.

Hello, I'm Ms. Jes!
In my classes, kids unleash their inner artist using favorite characters and games that I’m just as passionate about as they are. We explore spontaneous creativity and embracing “mistakes”. Let’s start drawing outside the box!
I am most passionate about teaching art and learning in unique ways. My approach to teaching infuses encouragement and optimism while having fun and connecting with a new generation over shared interests. Every child is special and celebrated for being who they are! No matter the class, I believe in positively approaching learning and finding joy in it.
• Outside of Outschool, I founded a nonprofit youth performing arts academy in 2015.
• I live in the beautiful Midwest of the USA with my husband and two children.
• If you need financial assistance, please don't hesitate to message me, and I will do my best to offer a reduced rate whenever possible.
