Beginner - Advanced Level
ASL Storytelling Mastery: ABC Stories and Beyond is an engaging 10-week journey for young ASL learners aged 9-13 who have completed Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced classes. This course focuses on enhancing storytelling abilities using American Sign Language and guides students through various creative techniques. Learners will dive into ABC stories, learning to craft narratives by creatively signing the alphabet. Learners focus on the fable "The Fox and the Crow," where students use ASL to bring the story’s characters and events to life—understanding how to gloss in ASL. How do you know how to sign different characters in a story? Learners collaborate in small groups to develop stories using a set of 10 words, building teamwork and imagination and learning how to create ASL stories in an improv way. Introduces classifier stories, allowing students to explore how classifiers create visual depth and enhance storytelling. Learners will learn another classic tale, "The Lion and the Mouse," to practice expressive skills and explore themes like friendship and bravery in ASL. Learner are ready to create their own stories using ten chosen words, applying all they’ve learned to develop unique and personal narratives. The class wraps up with a showcase, where students present their stories, demonstrating their confidence, creativity, and storytelling skills in ASL. This course expands vocabulary and fosters collaboration, self-expression, and a deep understanding of ASL storytelling techniques. Students leave with a sense of accomplishment and an eagerness to continue their ASL journey.
Learning Goals

Parental Guidance
Our class is appropriate for all ages. Word lists will be provided within 24 hours after each class. We use third-party tools such as Kahoots, Gimkit, Quizlet, and Google Forms for assessments to enhance learning. We ensure these tools are safe and secure for your child’s use.

Must have taken Beginner, Intermediate, and advanced American Sign Language.

With over 15 years of experience as an ASL educator, including ten years working directly within the Deaf community, I bring a wealth of expertise to this class. In addition to teaching ASL at various preschools and private kindergartens in my local area, I also lead a music and movement program. I have firsthand experience using signs to communicate with my daughter, who is hard of hearing and also an Outschool teacher.
My teaching philosophy centers around creating a fun and engaging learning environment that fosters a genuine desire to continue learning. It is important to note that this class strictly adheres to a professional code of ethics, and no sensitive information or high-risk topics are covered. Rest assured; our focus is on providing an enjoyable educational experience that inspires a lifelong love for ASL.
