Weeks 1-5 start with very basic/beginner vocabulary and gradually build up expressive and receptive language to more complex topics like questions and sentence structure to Weeks 6-11 while also mixing in some fun vocabulary. In this beginner ASL class, learners will get to grips with the first steps of learning American Sign Language. Week beginning 21/10/24: Days of the Week Week beginning 28/10/24: Family Week beginning 4/11/24: Animals Week beginning 11/11/24: Places Week beginning 18/11/24: Jobs Week beginning 25/11/24: Transportation Week beginning 2/12/24: ABCs/Fingerspelling Week beginning 9/12/24: Emotions Week beginning 16/12/24: Colours Week beginning 23/12/24: Weather Some additional things I would include with longer session times or as homework assignments that learners can do at their own pace is expressive and receptive skills with these topics like fingerspelling and letter practice, question practice and using pronouns/emotions/describing words. Many fun activity sheets are available for ASL ABC and number practice, word searches, etc. Within each lesson aside from vocab things like handshape, palm orientation, movement, location, and non-manual markers will be included as these are essential things for all signs. All vocabulary taught can be found either in ASL dictionaries published or from Gallaudet Universityโs website where they include videos of all of this information covered.
