Arts Integration Pod

Arts Integrated lessons enhance student comprehension and understanding of core subjects. It uses multiple intelligence strategies to combine academic learning with artistic creativity. Each class will begin with a creative, introductory game to engage the students in an experimental environment. A core subject lesson will be given in the following areas: math, language arts, social studies. An arts integrated activity in music, theatre or dance will be introduced with a creative component. Students will practice, develop, revise and innovate the activity. At the end of class, students will have an enriched understanding of the content while using their creative gifts. All lessons are geared for grades 2-6 and can be adapted to each level. 
Lessons subjects will be taught on Wednesdays in the following format.

9/8/21  Math - Drama. Solve the mystery. Students create a scene where a mystery needs to be solved using number equations.
9/15/21  Language Arts - Drama. Vocabulary Scenes. Students demonstrate vocabulary words through pantomime or through scenes.
9/22/21 Social Studies - Drama. Super Hero Saga. Students create their own super hero and use their problem solving skills for a scenario to defeat a villain or circumstance.
10/6/21 Math - Music. Numbers rap. Students create a beat and rap out counting, times tables, number operations or equations.
10/13/21  Language Arts - Music. Letter sounds. Students come up with words that start with the same letter then create a rhythmic sequence. They keep adding on to the sequence to see how many words they can come up with for that letter. 
10/20/21 Social Studies - Music. Event Song. Students select an event from a list then learn the details of the event. They create a song about the event. 
10/27/21 Math - Dance. Dance rap. Students create a beat then dance out counting, times tables, number operations or equations.
11/3/21  Language Arts - Dance. Body Percussion. Students create a sound (clapping) or movement (turn) for each word of a sentence. They communicate the sentence non-verbally with their movements.
11/10/21  Social Studies Dance. Culture Dance. Students are introduced to dance styles from multiple countries. They listen to music from that country and create their own dance in that style.
11/17/21 Math - Drama. Garage Sale. Students act out a scene at a garage sale with a seller and a buyer. They use mathematical formulas to negotiate the price on items.
12/1/21  Language Arts - Drama. Storytelling. Students act out a story as they listen to it through pantomime.
12/8/21  Social Studies - Drama. Historical portrayals. Students select a historical event from a list. They learn the facts of the event then re-inact the event through dramatic improvisation.
