Students will learn the structure of songwriting and compose their own songs.
Class experience
Students will learn how to write a song by class collaborations and assigned lessons. Topics covered are: song structures, song styles. melody, rhythm, lyrics, software tools and recording tools. Each class will have a lecture and activity with an assignment each week. Week one: Lecture- Song structures and styles. Activity- Collaborate on a song using a song format. Assignment- Build a list of your favorite songs with a verse, chorus format. Week two: Lecture- How to create a melody....
Students will learn the basics of how to compose a song.
I have a M.A. degree in Musical Theatre with a Certificate in Music Composition. I am a published composer and I have taught songwriting to students for many years.
Homework Offered
Students will have assignments each week working on their songs.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Feedback and evaluation is given on the last session. Students will assess their composition.Grades Offered
Recommended sites will be offered during class
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
