Class Experience

Throughout history, the United States has seen 46 different men hold the office of the Presidency. Few of these men have stories as bold and as intriguing as that of Andrew Jackson. From his service in the Revolutionary War, to his policies that caused the suffering of thousands of Native Americans, this class will explore the complete story of this man who would leave a lasting impact on the United States of America.
This class will be taught through discussion, lecture, videos and music (The Battle of New Orleans song) Students will receive a timeline worksheet before class that will be filled as we go along through the life story of Andrew Jackson. While information covered will include difficult topics such as slavery and war, my top priority is to keep all information at an age appropriate level. Students are encouraged (but never required) to participate in discussions through the group chat or live. A critical thinking question will also be part of the classroom discussion at the conclusion of the lesson. It is always my goal for students to both gain knowledge and leave class excited to talk about what they have learned!

Parental Guidance
Parents should be advised that sensitive subjects will be addressed as part of this lesson. This includes the topics of war and slavery during the early years of the United States government and as the topic relates to Andrew Jackson who was a slaveholder. Additionally, the mistreatment of Native Americans will be covered as it is central Jackson's life and legacy. Addressing these these topics in a straightforward and age appropriate manner is my highest priority. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and reflect on these topics.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
