Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
Do you have a hand puppet gathering dust at the back of your wardrobe and you’d love to learn how to impress your friends and family with your new, exciting, puppetry skills?

Have you ever watched someone performing with hand puppets and wondered how do they do that?,

Are you looking for an exciting new skill for a talent show piece?

In this one-time acting class, you will learn the first starting points of how to perform hand puppetry. Looking at how to make your ‘puppet’ speak, including all the technical mechanics involved in that. Through to how to get it to move and show emotion.

As the focus is on your hand or puppet for this class it can be a great class for frustrated camera-shy performers too!

Mrs. T will also demo all her different types of hand puppets from sock puppets and mouth only, to whole hand, and hand and rod puppets. She will also introduce the newest addition to her collection 'Jasper'. So learners will learn which puppet they could look to move on to next.

Don’t worry you don’t need any prior puppet, or even acting/performing experience, to take part in this fun, active class. You don’t even need a hand puppet!!!! as you can use a sock or even just your hand for this class.

The class will start with an especially created warm-up (and an explanation of why it is really important to warm up certain key parts of your body when working with hand puppets) before learners will learn how to start at the very beginning and bring their ‘puppet’ to life.

*I also offer an adaptation of this class as a one-to-one private class for extra focused learning, and we can discuss learner's relationship with their puppet, to build its character and work through some performance ideas if you would like to. Please message me with a time request.

I look forward to seeing you in class…any hand puppets are also very welcome!!

I am passionate about puppets and very much enjoy using them in some of my classes with my youngest learners and making puppet videos. I have built up quite a collection of different types of puppets and have attended numerous workshops to develop my skills.

I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching Drama (and some Music, PSHCE, and English) to 11 to 15 years olds and Performing Arts to 16 to 18 year olds in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence building  workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16.

As a professional actress, I've performed to children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties,  nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.

I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast.

I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.
