Acting for Teens Six Week Acting Course
In this six-week online acting course, teen actors will be taught the fundamentals of acting techniques and apply them to a virtual performance of a selected published play, which will be performed virtually.

1-2 hours per week. *The script of the selected play will be posted in the classroom after the first class. *Each learner is required to download their script onto their desktop as soon as it is received. *Memorizing lines are not required for this course however: practicing reading lines out loud in between classes are highly encouraged. *Learners will use their scripts that have been downloaded on to their desktop as a guide during performance. Actors are asked to rehearse their lines each week by reading their assigned lines out loud with a friend or family member. The focus of the class is on character interpretation.Class Experience
This six-week acting course is a seventy-minute class held once a week, for six consecutive weeks. Geared towards teen actors of all levels, students will learn the essentials of theatre techniques and apply them to an online performance at the end of the course. Each week learners will learn how to act through fun and educational theatre games, character development exercises, as well as speech and diction. In the second half of each class, learners will rehearse and be a part of a published scripted play. This class is ideal for teens who want to strengthen their acting technique, as well as work with others who share their passion! ***The play selected will depend on the amount of learners enrolled in each section. The play will be no more than thirty-minutes in length. Please see list of plays below that may be selected. List of Plays - Acting For Teens Six-Week Course 2023 • Alice In Cyberland (Modern comical teen zoom adaptation) • The Unfortunate Teller (Comical play about a phony fortune teller) • Fairy Tale Invasion (Fairy Tale Characters appear in a teens bedroom to teach modern day life lessons) • The Most Viewed Least Watched Virtual Talk Show (Comical take on talk show made for Zoom) • Mirror, Mirror (A Virtual Fractured Fairy Tale) Acting For Teens Six-Week Course Weekly Breakdown: Week 1- • Welcomes. • Introductions & Ice Breakers. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-Up • Learn the nine parts of the stage. • Building a strong foundation, actors learn the fundamentals of acting technique & Improv skills with various fun, energetic and educational theatre games. Week 2- • Welcomes. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-up. • Theatre Games: Actors will spend attention on connecting emotion with words, as well as play some theatre games where character development is practiced. • Group discussion of the selected play. • First read through of chosen play. Week 3- • Welcomes. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-up. • Strengthening the actor’s voice: Voice projection & diction exercises will be this week’s focus. • Casting and read thru of the selected play. • Assign homework for the following week. Week 4- • Welcomes. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-up. • Theatre Games: Story telling through movement is this week’s focus. • Rehearse play. • Assign homework for the following week Week 5- • Welcomes. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-up. • Theatre Games: Focus and concentration exercises will be this week’s focus. • Rehearse play. Other Details
Parental Guidance
***All learners entering the course must have strong reading skills.
***Performing virtually does have its limitations. As per Outschool’s policies, household members are welcome to watch their child perform live from afar and a comfortable distance from the actors device. Parents/family/friends are unable to join the zoom meeting and view the show. Household members are able to view the video, which will be posted in the classroom the next day. For your child’s safety Outschool policies does not permit the video of the performance to be emailed or edited.
***The selected play chosen for this class will not exceed thirty-minutes in length.
***Auditioning for specific roles is not part of CTP's methodology. All parts will be assigned by the teacher and posted in the classroom after the first week of the course. Focus is spent on the techniques that are applied to the role and not the amount of lines or size of the part.
***A medium to large open space is required. Comfortable clothing such as, athletic or dance attire works perfectly well. As for shoes, if your child is participating on a hard surface floor such as hardwood or tile, a pair of running shoes are recommended for proper support. Should your child be in carpeted room, non stick socks work. Cordless ear buds required or simply using the microphone form your child's computer work well. No prior stretching or warming up is required and water bottles are a must!
***Should a learner not attend the first class without prior notification from the parent, unfortunately we are unable to provide a full refund or a discount for missing the first class. We would be more than happy to transfer your learner to another upcoming section of the same course.

Teacher expertise and credentials
The Acting for Teens Six-Week Acting Course will be instructed by Mr. Howard Kane.
Mr. Kane has been teaching the craft of Acting and Musical Theatre to children for thirty-three years. Prior to founding The Children's Theatre Project in 2000, Mr. Kane headed up the drama departments at Toronto Montessori Schools and the North York Montessori Learning Centre. Prior to teaching, Mr. Kane was a performer in New York City where he studied and performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway. His highly energetic and positive teaching methods have been recognized in 2012, when his school was nominated for The Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce for an Excellence in Business Achievement Award. Mr. Kane currently has many of his former students working in the performing arts industry as well as currently studying in highly recognized arts programs at the secondary and University level.
