What's included

16 live meetings
12 in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. I will post in the classroom each week the spelling pattern or rule we focused on as well as review words that can be practiced at home.
Assessment
Each class will begin with a review of the phonogram, sound, or rule cards to determine which are mastered and which need more review. When students are building words with the tiles and writing words and sentences I will evaluate whether certain concepts need more review or are mastered.

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Intermediate Level
All About Spelling uses multisensory, Orton-Gillingham based, learning. Kinesthetic learning includes building words with letter tiles and writing words, phrases, and sentences. Visual learning includes watching direct instruction of spelling concepts with the colored tiles, seeing the words written down, and looking at the review cards. Auditory learning includes verbally reviewing the review cards, segmenting words out loud, and saying the phonogram's sound as it is written.

Each week I will incorporate the following activities:
1. Review phonogram cards, sound cards, key cards, and word cards.
2. Introduce a new spelling concept through direct modeling with the tiles followed by guided practice with the tiles, independent practice in writing, and application in writing in a word or sentence.
3. Analyze a given word based on previously learned spelling concepts and phonograms.
4. Assess your child's progress through their understanding of review cards and demonstration of the spelling concept in writing.
5. At the end of each step students will be given six words that contain the spelling concepts that they have been learning. They will write their own sentences using those words. They can choose to write six separate sentences or combine multiple words in each sentence.

Students can write on their board with a dry erase marker or type in the chat. At the end of the course, students will spell words with a partner in breakout rooms while I individually assess the phonogram cards.
Learning Goals
Students will apply spelling strategies, spelling rules, and syllable division rules to new words.
Students will be able to determine if a long E word is spelled with IE, EI, or another vowel.
