Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
This 2weekly, private spelling class is for students to learn and improve their spelling and writing skills. Make them confident in spelling, and in turn will improve their reading skills.

Our first class we will get to know each other have comfortable and relaxed conversations. I will asses their spelling levels by starting out with Zoom whiteboard and let them spell out different levels of spelling words for me. This is just a simple assessment to see where we should start at we can always move up or move down levels. I want to make spelling fun, positive and as relaxed as possible.

Students will get a weekly spelling word list we will go over the spelling words practice writing them down spelling them out together. The I will bring up the whiteboard on Zoom and test their knowledge if they get a few wrong we will practice more. Once they know how to spell all the words we will put words into sentences students can either type them out on the Zoom whiteboard or use a piece of paper. Students will practice putting spelling words into full descriptive sentences using punctuation marks. students will get 5-15 spelling words depending on their skill levels and depending on class time.

This class is for extra help with spelling and writing spelling words in sentences. I have word list however, if you have a set of words that your child needs extra help with (weekly spelling list for public school, homeschool, etc.,) please let me know and I can base the weekly lesson on those words. Parent input and communication is very important to me so we can work together for your learner to get the most of their time with me.

Learners will need to bring a notebook and a pencil/or a white board to class with them or we can use Zoom whiteboard. They will write down their 5/15 (depending on skill level) spelling words for the week. Each week your leaner will get a new set of spelling words to practice. We will practice the words with some fun games.

We will write out our spelling words and practice putting them into complete full sentences. I will ask them if they can expand or add on to their sentences asking for more details. This opens up their minds and (makes them think outside the box).

Then we will write a couple spelling words into sentences, go over any words they are having trouble with, and have a quick spelling quiz..

These private sessions are student driven I can go down a level or up a level in spelling words. We will work on the spelling skills that your child needs to work on. I will teach students how to break down words in to pieces or smaller words to help them become confident spellers.

1. Hear the word (sound the word out)
2. Practice sound out letters
3. identify spelling patterns
4. write word down on white board or paper
5. repeating spelling words out loud for letter recognition
6. Writing sentences (learning how to add more details into a sentence)
7. Edit and revise writing utilizing correct capitalization, punctuation, grammar and consistent penmanship
8. Use the spelling word into a sentence. (The use of each individual word and meaning of the spelling word)
9. memorization, student will learn to memorize their spelling words
blending sounds

Students will write sentences using their spelling words and learn how to add more details into a sentence.
Example:

 The tree is pretty.
The tree across the road from me is very pretty.

The sun is out.
The sun is out and shining down on me making me hot.

The flower is pink.
The flower in my garden is a beautiful pink and yellow.

Some learners like to also make flashcard to practice throughout the week. We can do this together in class. Afterwards they can decorate the cards some will put glitter, stickers or other décor on the flashcards I encourage this for students to make it fun for them. Some will make this a small craft project to add in after class is over then show them to me the next time we meet.

Spelling Practice improves English vocabulary to train kids brain and memory to remember spelling of different words. It also helps your kids, by seeing spelling and visualizing pictures and sounds. Kids will easily practice and learn with fun.

The spelling benefits will go well beyond good spelling: For young children, research clearly indicates that spelling supports learning to read, and for older children, it's likely that learning about the meaningful relationships between words will contribute to vocabulary growth and reading comprehension.
