ABRSM Grade 8 Students will learn through lectures, readings, exercises, and listening assignments provided by the teacher. Students may email the instructor if there are any questions. The class time is structured according to the following topics as outlined in the ABRSM. Assignments will be due two days prior to the scheduled meeting to allow the instructor to provide timely feedback to the learner via the Outschool classroom. The assignments are designed to help reinforce the topics learned in each session. While it is recommended to purchase the textbook, the teacher will provide all the materials needed for the learners in this class. This course will use video examples, and assignment explanations, and will provide feedback. Each lesson is a combination of lectures via PowerPoint, listening, and written discussion about the material covered in the lesson. Students will also complete melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic dictation throughout the course. The teacher will post questions in the classroom to encourage class discussion that will reflect the material that they have learned. Students will complete their ear training assignments in the form of a recording and upload them to the classroom where the instructor will provide feedback to the learner for their work. There will be melodic and rhythmic dictations where learners will be interact with the instructor via video. There will also be different music applications used for the course that will encourage interaction between learners.
Learning Goals
Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of basic music theory concepts, including pitch, tempo, and time values, to enhance their overall musical knowledge.Students will improve their melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic dictation skills by accurately identifying and notating musical elements such as rests, ties, and dots.
