Bridge to Geometry Summer Class | Preparing You to Enter High School Geometry

Join us as we memorize and apply theorems, postulates, and more! Geometry is different from what you've been used to in math class - memorization and proper application are critical.

What's included

1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. Homework will be a simple worksheet (answers included) to reinforce the concept that was covered that week. Sometimes it may be the remainder of the page we are working on in class.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 10
Welcome!
What will this class cover?
We tackle a fundamental geometry postulate/theorem every week. We will cover core geometry concepts at a slower, discussion-based pace (for example, What do we know about alternative interior angles?).

Who is this class for?
This math class is perfect for students preparing to enter geometry within one year OR for students who are currently in geometry and want extra support/review.

Are there any required materials?
Some weeks learners will be provided with an optional printable handout (posted on Sundays), and other weeks learners will just need a pencil and paper.

What is your teaching style?
I act as the facilitator of learning rather than just the giver of information. The focus is on problem solving through discussion, and this works well with reluctant learners AND advanced learners! I give lots of examples and am interactive with learners.

What is the schedule?
Week 1 (June 9) Parallel lines cut by a transversal
Week 2 (June 16) Proving lines parallel
Week 3 (June 23) Slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines
SKIP week of June 30
Week 4 (July 7) Triangle congruence: Side-Angle-Side
Week 5 (July 14) Triangle congruence: Side-Side-Side
Week 6 (July 21) Triangle congruence: Angle-Side-Angle
Week 7 (July 28) Triangle congruence: Angle-Angle-Side

More weeks will be added, though the day/time is subject to change.

NOTE: Though we cover several geometry concepts, this is not considered a full geometry course. The concepts do not build upon one another, so feel free to join any time.

More on my teaching style:
My goals are to teach to the students' needs and encourage students while they learn these core concepts. I accomplish this through setting high expectations and making sure students feel seen and heard. Mistakes will be made, and that is okay! It is all part of the learning process.

The method of teaching will be a mix of "I do, we do, you do" (which means I will be demonstrating the content first) and giving the students problems to try out on their own first. I often use questions to allow students to think critically without giving the answers away. I love student-to-student interaction and will be incorporating it as much as possible through online discussions. That looks like giving students the opportunity to share their thought processes and answers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
The courses I offer center around core math topics in pre-algebra and algebra. I like to focus on the important building blocks students need to master in middle school and early high school in order to succeed in high school and beyond. Some of these topics cover proportionality, equations, inequalities, basic geometry, algebraic expressions, and arithmetic.

I am a certified teacher for grades 4-8 math and have over four years of professional experience teaching math to students ranging from grades 3 to 12. I taught seventh grade math while getting my credentials and taught my first year of seventh grade math at an amazing school. Though I left full-time teaching when I became a mother in 2019, I have continued to pursue my passion for teaching math part-time via various platforms.

My philosophy that drives my teaching is that every student is a unique person who is worthy of my time. I have the patience to work with students who are struggling in math and the ability to push students who are naturally inclined towards math. My goals when working with students are to teach and encourage.

When I'm not teaching/tutoring I can be found snuggling my babies, spending quality time with friends and family, and playing disc golf with my wonderful husband.
