US Grade 8
This course will meet once a week to work through various, foundational math skills. The content will be geared toward 8th graders, but any student that is working at that grade level is welcome to join. I am here to help your learner feel successful and confident in their math abilities. I love helping students work through math problems, bit by bit. We will find important information to solve the problem and identify ways to find the information we need. We will discuss the best math strategies needed to solve the calculations we are working on, whether that is through drawing a picture, guess and check, find a pattern, work backwards, or write a number sentence. These problems will be both single-step and multi-step. This is an ongoing class, so the classes do not build on each other. There are not any materials required for this class beyond pencil and paper. The class will be student driven and adapt to student needs. We will cover an array of math concepts including algebra, equations, probability, percents, fractions, formulas, and geometry. Some might be more challenging, while some might be more of a review, depending on your learner’s math level.

I’m a certified teacher in Elementary Education with my Master’s in Education Leadership, with experience in both in the US and internationally. My family and I had the privilege of living overseas for 15 years, teaching in international schools around the globe. I've lived in New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Thailand, and Bosnia and Herzegovina! I value teaching small groups, students from diverse backgrounds, instilling curiosity in my students, and encouraging students to take ownership of their learning. Over the course of my 18 years in the classroom, I have gained valuable insight into best practices and ways to connect with learners. I strive for each of my learners to know that I care deeply about them and their education. Connection is the base for all authentic learning.
On Outschool, I am teaching an array of different classes: math camps, problem solving, traveling, book clubs, nature journaling, tutoring, choose-your-own-adventure, reading comprehension courses, and novel studies to list a few. I believe in smaller class sizes to ensure quality of education and engagement.
Outside of teaching, I am an avid long-distance trail runner, reader, and traveler! I'm equally passionate about all three. I love anything outdoors. Travel has taught me valuable life-long lessons that I love sharing with others. I have a teacher husband (also on Outschool!), and two young children that I adore.
