US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
In this course, learners will learn to recognize the letters in the alphabet and the corresponding sounds they each make. Each week we will explore two letters in alphabetical order. Your learner will be asked to trace the letter in the air, write it on paper or a whiteboard, use dots on the screen to make the letter, build the letter with stacking cubes or building blocks that connect, identify and match lowercase with uppercase, fill in missing letters of words that are related to the letter they are learning, match pictures that begin with the letter, and do letter searchers. During each activity, I will reinforce the sound that the letter makes and ask your learner to make the sound, too. Week 1: Letters/Sounds of Aa and Bb Week 2: Letters/Sounds of Cc and Dd Week 3: Letters/Sounds of Ee and Ff Week 4: Letters/Sounds of Gg and Hh Week 5: Letters/Sounds of Ii and Jj Week 6: Letters/Sounds of Kk and Ll Week 7: Letters/Sounds of Mm and Nn Week 8: Letters/Sounds of Oo and Pp Week 9: Letters/Sounds of Qq and Rr Week 10: Letters/Sounds of Ss and Tt Week 11: Letters/Sounds of Uu and Vv Week 12: Letters/Sounds of Ww and Xx Week 13: Letters/Sounds of Yy and Zz For this class, your learner should have paper or a whiteboard, stacking cubes or building blocks, and it would be beneficial to the student if they are able to annotate on their device. I will share my screen with the students and from there we use each slide as a prompt for learning sounds and letters. My teaching style is upbeat and encouraging! This class is a great fit for preschoolers or kindergartners that are working on sound/letter recognition. This is not for learners that are already reading. I hope your pre-reader can join for some literacy fun! *I will need at least 4 learners enrolled to continue with class. Come one, come all!

I’m a certified teacher in Elementary Education with my Master’s in Education Leadership, with experience in both in the US and internationally. My family and I had the privilege of living overseas for 15 years, teaching in international schools around the globe. I've lived in New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Thailand, and Bosnia and Herzegovina! I value teaching small groups, students from diverse backgrounds, instilling curiosity in my students, and encouraging students to take ownership of their learning. Over the course of my 18 years in the classroom, I have gained valuable insight into best practices and ways to connect with learners. I strive for each of my learners to know that I care deeply about them and their education. Connection is the base for all authentic learning.
On Outschool, I am teaching an array of different classes: math camps, problem solving, traveling, book clubs, nature journaling, tutoring, choose-your-own-adventure, reading comprehension courses, and novel studies to list a few. I believe in smaller class sizes to ensure quality of education and engagement.
Outside of teaching, I am an avid long-distance trail runner, reader, and traveler! I'm equally passionate about all three. I love anything outdoors. Travel has taught me valuable life-long lessons that I love sharing with others. I have a teacher husband (also on Outschool!), and two young children that I adore.
