Students will learn the basics of circuit electricity. Students will be introduced to the concept of a circuit. Students will learn the difference between an open circuit and a closed circuit. Students will learn how electricity flows through circuits to make objects work. Students will learn what happens when a circuit is complete, and a circuit is broken. Students will learn about what a conductor and an insulator are. Students will look at real life examples of how circuits work. Students will be asked to come up with one example of how a circuit works in their home.

Students will leave this class understanding how electricity travels through a circuit
Students will understand that circuits are all around them (at home, in school, outdoors etc)

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a New York State certified (grades 1-6) fourth and fifth grade teacher in the Bronx. I specialize in social studies, science and ELA. I have two masters degrees, one in history and one in education. I am a lifelong learner, and have a passion for teaching. I really enjoy exploring science and social studies topics with kids, especially those with ties to current events. I love to read articles with students that inspire learning. Furthermore, I find that active participation and engagement in conversation is an extremely important part of education, and you will see that reflected in my classes.
