Novice level class (some knowledge of colors or animals is helpful) The primary focus is building vocabulary in Spanish that follows the ABCs using simple questions to promote conversation and understanding. Learning is focused on speaking accompanied with visual cues, imagery, and repetition. This fun and engaging class will teach useful vocabulary to get your child conversing in Spanish. This is a 10-week class and follows the ebook (ABC’s 140 Sight Words in English / Spanish by Diana Di Tolla, 25 pages of pictures/text/audio. Purchase the ebook on iTunes.) In this third class, we start at the letter Q, spend the week learning vocabulary, and each week add to our collection with a new letter. Using words in English and Spanish for each letter, we cover most of the alphabet, even as we only get to Letter P in this second class. ABCs in Spanish! covers Letters A-G, and ABCs in Spanish! 4 reviews the alphabet with verbs. Review of previous vocabulary is included as well as a final project and presentations in the final week of class. Each class will introduce vocabulary from the ebook and we will practice: pronouncing (how to produce the sounds) and create a simple sentence in context. Also, about 10 minutes at the beginning of class will be to review previously learned vocabulary. Ten minutes on new vocabulary, with 5-10 minutes for review with a follow-up activity. Week 1: Letters Q Week 2: Letter R Week 3: Letter S Week 4: Letter T Week 5: Letter U Week 6: Letter V Week 7: Letter W Week 8: Letter X Week 9: Letter Y Week 10: Letter Z + presentations Interaction (speaking and listening) is guided by the teacher and students will be prompted to volunteer for practice using simple commands (circling, pointing to, repeating vocabulary words.) Students will repeat after the teacher and practice speaking with visual cues or hints from the teacher. Students will speak individually and as a whole class as they practice. Eventually, the students will be the ones asking as they practice being the teacher. This is a very organic process, very much like we learned our first language, and struggling is a normal part of learning. Feeling discouraged is NOT part of the process. My students’ find they will understand more than they can explain because of the visual cues and repetition that I use as the instructor. As students get more independent, and they learn from each other, they will retain the vocabulary, which will enable them to start creating simple sentences, and then sentences with more complexity. Es rosado. Son rosas. Son unas rosas rojadas. / Tengo unas rosas rojadas. Getting students to use Spanish and be independent is what I do best. Class size maximum is 5 students per class to ensure a lot of personal attention. Let's have fun while we learn this new and amazing language!

Teacher expertise and credentials
<I am taking a hiatus until January 2025> ~ Profesora D
Hola - I am a National Board Certified Teacher of Spanish language and culture, from the novice levels to advanced of Spanish language learners, including heritage speakers in Washington state. I am a public school teacher for 20+ years, have tried and true methods for language learning, and love to share my passion for this beautiful language with young people. As well as my National Board Certification (until 2031), I have a Master's in Teaching, a Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish, a Bachelor's of Science in Botany, College Board certified to teach AP Spanish Language & Culture, and TEFL certified (Teaching English As A Foreign Language.)
I have loved Spanish since I first heard it at 5 years old and have spent my life immersed in this amazing culture and language. I value hard work more than perfect pronunciation as that will help my students more in life and I know from first hand experience that everyone can learn. My classes are fun, interactive, conversational, and academic (although I slip this in and students are having so much fun that they forget they are in class). I have also created a few classes in Udemy.com that focus on Spanish grammar. In addition, I spend my time with my family and friends, cooking, going on walks, camping, biking, reading, and, of course, watching movies. I can't wait to meet you in our virtual classroom!
