[1st of five 6-week sessions] This private course takes a modified, thematic approach to 1st Grade Science. It offers content that is typically taught during the first 8-weeks in a traditional 1st grade science class. The students will take an in-depth look at Sound & Light Waves in addition to Animal & Plant Adaptations. The following topics will be discussed: Waves: Light and Sound Week 1 - Sound and sound making materials vibrate Week 2 - Colors & the effect of placing objects made with different materials in the path of a beam of light Week 3 - Light, sound and communication over distances Structure, Function, and Information Processing Week 4 - Camouflage and how plants & animals use their external parts to help them survive and grow Week 5 - Mimicry and how plants & animals use their external parts to help them survive and grow Week 6 - Lab Experiment The students will learn about Sound & Light Waves. This section will be taught using pictures, video clips, slides, discussions, lecture, and open-ended questions. Students will learn about Structure, Function, and Information Processing of animals and plants. This section will be taught using pictures, video clips, slides, discussions, lecture, and open-ended questions. The students will learn how animals and plants adapt using camouflage and mimicry. This will be taught using pictures, video clips, slides, discussions, lecture, and open-ended questions. The students do not need to have any prior knowledge. The second 7-weeks course will pick up where this course leaves off.
