Does your learner need extra support in reading (decoding) words? Does your learner have a long list of sight words that need to be learned this year? (The majority of words can be learned by using phonics skills and knowledge.) Does your learner read individual words well, but struggle when reading sentences and paragraphs? Does your learner find the combination of new vocabulary and longer sentences difficult to comprehend? Let me use the science of reading to teach reading skills and comprehension strategies to improve their reading levels. Each class includes grammar, phonics, and vocabulary instruction that will help students to be successful in reading. Lessons vary based on what your learner needs. Spelling Reading: Sounding out words (decoding) Sight words, popcorn words, CVC, and heart words Multiple syllable words Word morphology to develop the ability to comprehend new words. Academic Reading Content: Reading for comprehension Summarizing readings Vocabulary in science or history Note-taking with graphic organizers

Parental Guidance
Older readers often use Nearpod to practice and review their reading and vocabulary skills. The platform requires a private link that learners receive in the classroom. Learners will be asked to provide their first name or initial when accessing Nearpod.
