1:1 Building Confidence With Reading

Learners will receive individualized support with developing their reading skills and work on comprehension by reading different text. Learners will engage with their teacher by using different comprehension strategies (i.e. predicting, locating information/events, summarizing, analyzing, making connections, inferring, critiquing and synthesizing information/events) through intentional questioning. I am engaging, energetic, and supportive with all learners and respect all learning styles and needs. I was a special education teacher for 8 years. I have worked with children of all ages.

Prior Knowledge:

Students should be able to identify all the letter names and basic words.

If students do not know these please view my 1:1 interactive sight words class. ( I will start with letters in that class)

Topics covered in tutoring sessions include:

-predicting the events that will occur based upon the cover and title of the book before reading
-adjusting predictions during and after reading
-locating textual evidence
-summarizing the major events/identifying the main idea of the book
-analyzing the setting and characters
-making connections between other books and personal experiences
-inferring characters' motivations and feelings
-critiquing the writing style of the author(s)
-synthesizing evidence from more than one text based upon similar themes

Each Class the stories will be chosen based of students needs.
