US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
Each week, a letter of the alphabet will be introduced. The students will be actively engaged in their learning through activity sheets and participation in the exercises we will do in class. The students will learn the phonemic sound associated with each letter, how to write each letter and words that begin with each letter. On the last day of the week we meet, the students will be encouraged to bring an item to share that starts with the letter we are learning about for the week. In the second class of the week, the students will work on more activities related to the letter of the week. (Reading the "high-frequency sight word sentences will only be used in classes that meet two or more times a week and if the student is ready for this activity.) Later, we learn about numbers, shapes, colors, patterns, sorting, simple addition, and other math activities. The students will have weekly activity sheets that will be sent through PDF files to be used in each class. In these classes, I will use screen sharing of interactive slides I have created. Some slides will be downloadable activity sheets that the teacher and students will do together in class. It would be best if the family has access to a printer for these activity sheets if possible. They can be printed in grayscale-black ink to save on color ink. These sheets can be kept in a 3-ring binder under the alphabet letter of the week. During this class, you will receive many activity sheets that can be used to review what they are learning. Research shows that children learn by repetition and review, so I encourage my parents to keep the completed activity sheets in an organized binder divided into the weekly alphabet letters we will learn. If you do not have access to a printer, you can complete some sheets on a blank piece of paper. Below are the topics we will cover weekly in our classes. The class listing is for 30 minutes per class, but we may go over a few minutes as we cover a lot of materials. The last class of the week is sharing day. The student can bring an item to share that begins with the letter of the week. Topics we will cover: * Days of the week * Month/Date (current date) * Letter of the week (practice identifying, writing, and saying letter sounds) * Learning to read words using picture clues for each letter of the week * Color of the week (practice identifying) * The shape of the week (practice identifying) * Math Skills (numbers 0 to 100. Counting by 1's, 5's, and 10's to a hundred. * Simple addition and subtraction * Before and after numbers * Patterns- seeing a pattern and finishing the pattern * Sorting objects into a given group * Fractions-simple fractions 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 * During our last class, students will each share an item that begins with the letter we are learning for the week. (This is for classes that meet twice or more weekly). This class will be scheduled monthly to accommodate families that want to pay for the entire month at one time. Week 1: Feb. 9-15 (Meets for two 30-minute classes) Letter A Week 2: Feb. 16-22 (Meets for two 30-minute classes) Letter B Week 3: Feb. 23-March 1 (Meets for two 30-minute classes) Letter C Week 4: March 2-8 (Meets for two 30-minute classes) Letter D
