IF ALL CLASSES ARE SOLD OUT, PLEASE CONTACT ME AND I WILL TRY TO WORK A TIME IN BOTH OUR SCHEDULES TO TEACH YOUR PRECIOUS CHILD. I LOVE TO TEACH AND MY 1-1 READING AND PRESCHOOL CLASSES ARE THE MOST POPULAR OF ALL MY CLASSES I OFFER. As a former kindergarten teacher and elementary classroom teacher for 27 years, I am very passionate about teaching and enjoy sharing my excitement about learning! I take pleasure in teaching, and I am patient in working with children. Each child is unique, and no two learners are alike. One student may learn more quickly than a classmate, but I believe all children have the potential to learn. I have high expectations for all students, and I do not limit their learning. I will encourage all my students to grow to their fullest potential! I love to teach children and get them excited about reading and their learning. I can try to create a schedule of 2 days and times to work in your learner’s schedule if the posted time/a do not work. Each week a letter of the alphabet will be introduced. The students will be actively engaged in their learning through activity sheets and through participating in the exercises we will do in the class. The students will learn the phonemic sound associated with each letter, how to write each letter, and learn words that begin with each letter. On the last day of the week we meet, the students will be encouraged to bring an item to share that begins with the letter we are learning about for the week. In the second class of the week, the students will be working with more activities pertaining to the letter of the week, numbers, shapes, colors, patterns, sorting, simple addition, or another math activity, and reviewing our sight words. (Reading the "high-frequency sight word sentences will only be used in classes that meet 2 or more times a week and if the student is ready for this activity). The students will have weekly activity sheets that will be sent through PDF files to be used in each class. In these classes, I will use screen sharing of interactive slides I have created. Some of the slides will be downloadable activity sheets the teacher and students will do together in class. It would be best if the family has access to a printer for these activity sheets if possible. They can be printed in grayscale-black ink to save on color ink. These sheets can be kept in a 3-ring binder under the alphabet letter of the week. During the duration of this class, you will receive many activity sheets that can be used for the review of what they are learning. Research shows that children learn by repetition and review, so I encourage my parents to keep the completed activity sheets in an organized binder divided into the weekly alphabet letters we will learn. If you do not have access to a printer, dry-erase whiteboards or paper can be used for some of the activity sheets. Below are the topics we will cover weekly in our classes. The class listing is for 30 minutes per class, but we may go over a few minutes as we cover a lot of materials. The last class of the week is sharing day. The student can bring 1-2 items to share that begin with the letter of the week. Topics we will cover: * Days of the week * Month/Date (current date) * Letter of the week (practice identifying, writing, and saying letter sounds) * Learning to read words using picture clues for each letter of the week * Color of the week (practice identifying) * The shape of the week (practice identifying) * Math Skills (numbers 0 to 100. Counting by 1's, 5's, and 10's to a hundred. * Simple addition and subtraction * Before and after numbers * Patterns- seeing a pattern and finishing the pattern * Sorting objects into a given group * Fractions-simple fractions 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 * During our last class, students will each share an item that begins with the letter we are learning for the week. (This is for classes that meet 2 or more times per week). This class and schedule below were set up for a student that needed private 1-1 classes twice a week. I used this to list the class. We will have classes two times a week. The class will start over when we get to the end of the alphabet. The following schedule was used for the first class to post the listing. NEED A DIFFERENT TIME OR DAYS OF THE WEEK, I CAN TRY TO WORK A SCHEDULE THAT WILL WORK AROUND YOUR NEEDS. Hello Parents and Caregivers!
I am very excited to be with Outschool and I would like to tell you a little about myself. I am honored that you took the time to read this information and are considering entrusting your learner in my classes. I taught in public schools for 27 years and for the last 3 years I have been teaching students ESL online all over the world. I am a certified and licensed teacher with a BS in Elementary Education and a concentration in early childhood. I taught all subjects in elementary classes K-6 but for more years in kindergarten-2nd grades. After I received my Master's Degree in Library Science and Information Skills, for the last 18 years in public education, I taught all grade levels from Preschool- 5th-grade. The students were taught reading and information skills, Internet Safety, and all about books. I checked out hundreds of books weekly while I was the media specialist-librarian.
I am certified and hold a TESOL Certificate from an International known school. I started working with English as Second Language (ESL) students when the university I attended allowed me to travel over a thousand miles to McAllen, Texas to do three weeks of student teaching in a bilingual school setting. I was able to teach many afterschool and summer programs with ESL students in the public school setting.
I am a patient and kind teacher and I love to praise and congratulate the students on all their successes in class. I endeavor to establish an atmosphere in my classroom that provides all students the following: they feel loved, and safe, and are with a teacher who sincerely cares about their education and learning. I have high expectations for all students. I do not put a lid on their learning and I try to take them as far as I can in my classes. I have witnessed many of my 3 and 4-year-olds after they complete my Preschool-Kindergarten Prep class, excel in their reading.
I love to teach children and share my passion for learning with these precious students. In my classes, the students will be involved in fun and engaging activities I have created and prepared. Whatever age group of children I am teaching, I try to instill in students a love for learning by creating an environment that is exciting and fun!
I have created the following classes with your children in mind!
