This one-off class will help learners understand what a coronation is and what some of the symbols and traditions they saw at the Coronation of King Charles III were. We will discuss what the purpose of a coronation is, using the examples of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III. We will also look at different traditions use in the coronation. In particular, we will look at the Royal Carriage, the Coronation Spoon, the Orb and Sceptre, the Coronation Ring, King Edward's Chair and the Crown. We will look at the history of each item from when it was first used and see some images of different monarchs with the items. We will use primary sources (photographs) of the symbols to prompt discussion and explore the meanings behind the different symbols. Learners will be encouraged to think about the different items before the meaning and history of each symbol is explained. I will also explain how this tradition was seen at the coronation of Charles III.

其他詳情
父母的引導和規範
If time allows, we will mention the Swords of State, Spiritual Justice, Mercy, and Temporal Justice. This is a ceremonial sword that is only used for coronations and has never been used in fighting.
The British Monarch is the head of the Church of England and, as such, the ceremony contains many references to religion. This will be presented as 'people believe', rather than from a factual perspective.
