每週 1-2 小時. Students will be assigned note sheets to complete throughout the lessons. Students will be assigned a creative, final project that will challenge them to apply all that they have learned throughout the course. Homework each week should take 1-2 hours.

In this 5 week course, students will receive the tools to effectively interact with the environment. Students will learn about ecology, habitats, niches, energy sources, environmental problems (pollution, habitat destruction, extinction, etc.) and ultimately how each individual should treat and handle the world. As an environmental science and biology teacher, I have had the unique privilege of designing lessons, activities and projects for both avenues of life science. I believe that it is extremely important for students to combine the two subjects during their time in middle school to understand how life and the environment interact so closely. I will teach this class with interactive lessons that utilizes active learning, interactive games, hands-on projects, inviting entry tasks and all sorts of media! Your student will also be appropriately challenged to think, discuss and consider science in today's world! This class is part 2 of my 4 part middle school life science series. 

Course schedule: 
Week 1: Understanding the environment: Problems, resources and history. 
Week 2: Ecology: How organisms interact with each other and their habitats. 
Week 3: Ecology: How organisms interact with each other and their habitats. 
Week 4: Energy Sources: How humans impact the environment
Week 5: Final, all inclusive project.

Students will understand how they should interact with their environment in a healthy way. 
Standards: 
MS-LS1-4. Use argument based on empirical evidence and scientific reasoning to support an explanation for how characteristic animal behaviors and specialized plant structures affect the probability of successful reproduction of animals and plants respectively. 
MS-LS1-5. Construct a scientific explanation based on evidence for how environmental and genetic factors influence the growth of organisms. 
MS-LS2-1. Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence for the effects of resource availability on organisms and populations of organisms in an ecosystem.
MS-LS2-2. Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across multiple ecosystems.
MS-LS2-3. Develop a model to describe the cycling of matter and flow of energy among living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem. 
MS-LS2-4. Construct an argument supported by empirical evidence that changes to physical or biological components of an ecosystem affect populations.
MS-LS2-5. Evaluate competing design solutions for maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Students will be supplied with a note sheet each week that can be printed or downloaded as a word document. 
Students will create a project that summarizes how they interact with their environment through the use of various energy sources. This project can be completed using a computer, google slides or powerpoint.

I currently am a credentialed teacher in Washington State and hold my endorsements in biology (5-12), health (K-12) and fitness (K-12). 
Last year, I taught biology, environmental science, health, physics and P.E. to middle and high school students. 
I hold my Masters Degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in life sciences and health.
I received my Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training from Whitworth University. I completed 1,250 clinical hours in physical therapy clinics, collegiate, semi-professional and high school athletic training rooms, emergency rooms and urgent cares.
