Hello Little Scientists! This weekly class incorporates the UK National Curriculum for Year 2 and the Next Generation Science Standards for Grade 1 to provide learners with a balanced and well rounded full year curriculum over 40 lessons! In this inquiry based class learners will make real world connections in a meaningful and engaging way. Inquiry based learning puts learners at the center of their education and encourages them to go further than simply remembering facts! In this class curious learners will be encouraged ask questions and participate in discussion drawing on their own experiences. Class sizes are kept small to facilitate class discussions and conversations and ensure that all learners have a safe space to share! Some classes may require learners to bring something that relates to our topic of the week. For example when exploring materials learners may bring something that is hard and something that is soft. Some classes may have a simple hands on activity during class time. Any hands on activity will require minimal preparation and commonly found household items. You will receive a supply list if needed on the Monday before class starts. Each class will also come with a worksheet - in some classes this will be completed during the class and for some classes it can be completed outside of class. Worksheets are kept simple so they can be easily replicated by grownups if you cannot or do not wish to print! September 18 - Why do we need bones? September 25 - Why do we need muscles? October 2 - What does our body do with air? October 9 - Is all food good for us? October 16 - Why do I need to exercise? October 23 - How can we group rocks by appearance? October 30 - How are fossils formed? November 6 - What is soil? November 13 - Why do we need light? November 20 - What is a reflection? November 27 - Is the sun dangerous? December 4 - Why don't all objects have a shadow? December 11 - How can we chage the size of a shadow? December 18 What are raw materials? December 25 BREAK January 1 2024 - BREAK January 8 - What are synthetic materials? January 15 - How do we make materials? January 22 - How do we make paper? January 29 - Why do people recycle? February 5 - How do we see? February 12 - How do we hear? February 19 - How do we taste? February 26 - How do we smell? March 4 - How do we feel? March 11 - What do the different parts of the plant do? March 18 - Do all plants grow well in the same conditions? March 25 - How do plants make food? April 1 - BREAK April 8 - How do animals help plants? April 15 - Can some plants eat? April 22 - What are forces? April 30 - How do things move on different surfaces? May 6 - What are non-contact forces? May 13 - What do magnets do? May 20 - What is attracted to a magnet? May 27 - Can we sort animals into groups? June 3 - How do animals adapt to hot habitats? June 10 - How do animals adapt to cold habitats? June 17 - Do all animals sleep at night? June 24 - How are organisms adapted to live in the water? SUMMER BREAK Each class is a standalone class and knowledge does not build - this means that your learner is able to drop in and out of the class as needed to support your leaner's needs.
