2. Develop the imagination and learn graphic design communication skills.
3. Learn concepts of scale, measurement, and the frame of reference for maps. 

Benefits of map making are:
- Topographical skills: Children are able to use directional labels such as north, south, east, and west
- Projective skills: Children are able to use their own position to determine a location and its relationship to other elements
- Euclidian skills: Children can accurately perceive spatial relationships such as those that are used on a paper map

I am a qualified schoolteacher and have taken many school classes to explore geographical sites around London and then map them.  I am also a trained artist and storyteller and bring geography and cultural studies alive through images and narratives. I have worked as a graphic web designer and taught visual communication to teenagers. Through the activity of making maps we will be activating the imagination and learning how to present ideas and solutions graphically.
