This costume design class is ideal for those who love the costumes and fashions in fairy tales, historic dramas and fantasy fiction. You will draw costumes for fantasy and magical characters such as queens, fairies, elves, warriors and wizards. There is always the option to explore more modern interpretations and create evening or street-wear designs. This class is ideal for children with vivid imaginations who love to draw independently! It is NOT a step-by-step drawing class and is suitable for young designers eager to explore their own fashion ideas.

Class Structure:
I start by showing inspirational fashion and costume designs based on the character of a fairy tale or other fantasy theme. We look at fashion illustrations and costumes seen in films, books and drawn by famous fashion designers. I always provide a wide variety of ideas: pretty princess dresses as well as warrior queen outfits! You will decide on your own individual design and everyone draws their own costumes. You will chose your colour palette and I will make suggestions to help you render a beautiful finished fashion illustration.   

Each class you have access to a printable fashion figure template that makes drawing easy and enjoyable for both beginners and more experienced fashion designers. This allows you to focus on the design of your costume without worrying about figure proportions. If you prefer to draw your own figure that is great too - bring your sketchbook! 

Everyone draws at their own level and can focus on drawing the level of detail they are most interested in, perhaps including fabric patterns and accessories, or sketch two or even three fashion designs for different characters or in different styles.  At the end of the class we share our fashion drawings, if you want, and discuss what skills we learned.
