It is important to be healthy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t indulge in desserts and baked goods. In this 4-week FLEX class, students will learn four different baking recipes, which all happen to be healthy! Students will learn what makes the recipes healthy and what typical unhealthy ingredients are being substituted. All lessons will have pre-recorded videos that students can follow-along and pause when needed. I go through safety measures, recipe steps, and measuring techniques in the videos. Students can also use the videos as a guide to check how big to make the treats, what the consistency of the mixture should be, how to properly measure ingredients, and when to tell when the treats are done baking. No previous experience is required! Below is the schedule and all the healthy treats we will be making: Week One: Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Energy Bites Week Two: Banana Oat Chocolate Chip Cookies Week Three: Bagels Week Four: Healthy Oat Breakfast Bars The ingredient lists will be posted ahead of time to allow for preparation. I will also include some substitution options that students can utilize, i.e., if there are allergies. Week one ingredients can be found in the Supply List. Throughout the week, students will show their creations, discuss if they enjoyed the recipe, if there were any surprises or challenges, if they used any substitutions, etc. In addition to the discussions, we will also do a poll at the end of each class to see if students would re-make the recipe or recommend it to a friend. A lot of the time, bakers can follow a recipe exactly and the results will still differ. In this class, students will post photos of their creations which will lead to discussions on how they differed from their peers or even mine. Additionally, at the end of the four weeks, we will take a poll to determine which recipe was the most successful and popular. Furthermore, students will do a recipe swap at the end of the class where they can share their own healthy baking recipe for the class to try! Students will leave the class with a variety of new healthy recipes for their repertoires! How will this class be interactive? 1) Discussion Posts – Each week there will be discussion posts and questions regarding the success of the week’s recipe, challenges, if any substitutions were made, and if they ultimately enjoyed the recipe. 2) Polls – After each class we will take a poll on whether we would recommend the recipe or make it again. Additionally, at the end of the session, we will vote on which recipe was our favourite. Since food is so subjective, it will be interesting to see everyone’s opinions and how they differ or how they are similar. 3) Progress Documentation – Students will post photos and/or their own videos to document their progress and creations. As mentioned above, often bakers can follow a recipe exactly as it’s written, and the results will still differ. The photos students post will lead to discussions on how they differed from their peers or even mine. 4) Teacher Feedback – I will be available for questions, to facilitate discussions, and to leave feedback for students. As three of the recipes involve an oven, parent supervision is strongly recommended.

I have been baking and following recipes since I was a child, mostly with my mom who is home-baker. I grew a love for baking and love trying new recipes! My family has recently done a switch where we try to only bake healthy foods as much as possible. Therefore, I now have a vast selection of healthy recipes!
