Each week, I will teach students a lesson, and then do an activity with them in relation to their stories they will write. It may be a review, or a game, or something we work on together. I try and add hands-on to each class. Then, in the last part of each class they will have time to write. This class is very interactive and we enjoy very solid conversations about writing. We begin with the basics of writing and then build on that. I will leave them with a small activity weekly to complete before the next class in relation to their story. Each week we will be writing. Either in paper and pencil format or on the computer. Their final draft of their writing (or as far as they have gotten) will be due the 6th week in class in Google Docs format. Some will not finish their story by then, but they will have a solid start and something for me to edit and give feedback on. This allows me to edit and send them my notes by the last class so they can edit and have a final draft of their own work. I will give reminders about this. **Google Docs is the program we will use. Here are the topics for each week: Week 1 - Genre, Author's Purpose, and Brainstorming -Students will begin brainstorming their story with my help. We will use a few different methods and they can choose the one they want. We also do some introductions. We will also discuss genre of literature and additional techniques to beginning the writing process. They will finish brainstorming at home and begin writing if they want. Week 2 - Characters, Theme, Plot -Students will develop their main characters and themes using a chart. We will work together to get a solid start on their story. We will also develop some events they will have in their story plot. I will provide documents they can use as guides for this part. You can print them or use them off the computer. They will begin solid writing this week if they have not started it. Week 3 - Text Structure, Organization, Graphic Organizers -Students will work on organization and how to make sure their writing flows. We will look at types of text structure and how they are used in creative writing. We will also do one last organizer to get information in one place and make sure it flows how they want. They will continue writing this week and work on writing their rising actions in their plot structure. Week 4 - Writing Conflict, Writing Climax, and Verb Tense, and Theme Review -Students will work on making their main and miniature conflicts seen throughout the story. We will also learn how to better write the most dramatic moment of our stories. We will discuss keeping the same tense all the way through which will help in their writing and in editing and revising. Lastly, we will discuss their theme and make sure we see it throughout their story so far. Week 5 - Sentence Structure, Vocabulary, and Grammar -Students will work with me on a sentence structure review. Some stuff they have seen but I believe it is vital to review how to create solid sentences and use punctuation. We will work on this and do some practice. They will continue writing to get to the climax of their story. Week 6 - Punctuation -Students will do a review of sentences and we will fully cover punctuation so it is fresh on their mind for editing. We will discuss theme further and how their theme has been shown throughout what they have written so far. They will strive to finish them story this week. Week 7 - Editing and Revising -Students will spend class time with me going back through and revising and editing their work. We start at the beginning of their work and read through so they can catch mistakes. I will have my edits on their papers as well so they will be using that as a guide. We will correct flow, transitions, and more. At the end, they should have a finished and edited story. **All materials are in my personal Google Drive created for this class. Once you click the link once, I will approve your access and then you can access anything in my folder. I will provide the link weekly to the classroom where you will find the folder for the week we are on and you can access everything there. You can access this regardless of your email suite as long as you have the link.

Students will learn the basics of writing, how to construct solid paragraphs, how to come up with a good writing topic, and more. They will leave with a solid understanding of writing and how to write properly. A few major focus points are academic vocabulary, writing structure, organization, and the elements of literature.
