In this first section we will discuss how the Classical Empires historical period is different from the Ancient world. We will begin discussing the founding of the Persian Empire

Expansion of the Persian Empire
In this section we will cover how the Persian Empire grew, and the factors that led to its downfall.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
The Greeks
In this section we will cover early Greek history and the Greco-Persian Wars.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Classical Greece
In this section we will cover the golden age of Greek history, the classical period.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Alexander the Great!
In this section we will cover the conquests of Alexander the Great, and his effect on the culture of the Eastern Mediterranean.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Imperial China
In this section we will cover the founding of Imperial China under the Qin Dynasty.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
China's Golden Age
In this section we will cover the history, accomplishments, and culture of the Han Dynasty.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
The Founding of Rome
In this section we will cover the founding of Rome, the Roman Kingdom, and the Roman Republic periods.

Lesson 9
The Expansion of Rome
In this section we will cover the various ways Rome expanded into the dominating power of the region, and the transition from republic to empire.
 Week 10
Lesson 10
The Fall of Rome
In this section we will cover the factors that led to Rome's fall. We will also compare and contrast the rise and fall of each of the empires we have covered as part of our final class.
  • ✓ Students will understand the strengths and weaknesses of these empires.
  • ✓ Students can apply this knowledge to modern society to better understand the functions of our communities and governments.
  • ✓ Students will understand the circumstances that led to the rise of ancient empires.
  • ✓ Students will know the defining features of these ancient civilizations, their locations, and their achievements.
I am a licensed teacher from the state of Virginia with a Bachelor's degree in History and minors in Religious Studies and Psychology. This course will be taught according to common core standards, and in alignment with both the Virginia Department of Education and  the California Department of Education's World History course requirements.

In this course we will use a variety of sources including primary sources. For an optional textbook to accompany the course students may use "Worlds Together, Worlds Apart: A History of the World from the Beginnings of Humankind to the Present" by Adelman, Pollard, Rosenberg, and Tignor.
