"I always wondered why somebody doesn’t do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody." - Lily Tomlin Voting, protesting, community activism, and serving as elected officials are all ways we can become involved in shaping the future of our communities. The focus of this class will be on the many different forms of civic engagement. We will cover the importance of being an informed voter, the ways we can become involved in local community organizations, and the road to serving as an elected official. Additionally, we will discuss strategies for creating our own community service projects, and examine the contributions of two modern activists for inspiration. My names is Keegan and I am a licensed social studies teacher for the Middle and High School level in the state of Virginia. I have a Bachelors Degree in History with minors in both Religious Studies and Psychology. I have taught classes from kindergarten to 12th grade, and tutored many students during my time as an educator.
As an Outschool teacher I have had the opportunity to work with many different learners and their families. The experience has shown me the wide variety of circumstances and needs that bring people to Outschool. This has led me to focus my classes on student engagement and choice. In the virtual classroom it is incredibly important to ensure students have many opportunities to participate. Additionally, those opportunities should come in a variety of ways, so that students can choose the method of participation that best suits their needs and comfort level. My students can expect an environment that is welcoming, supportive, and understanding while maintaining the academic standards necessary for student success.
If you have any questions or requests please feel free to reach out to me on Outschool messenger. I am always happy to help. Thank you for visiting my profile page, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
