Beginner Level
Clay comes from the earth: an ancient, organic, substance. It smells cool and dark. It is smooth and soft, yet also quite dense. Clay requires muscle. There is an intuitive aspect to working with clay; through many encounters, we develop a sense of the fluidity and substance. There are many sorts of clay, ranging from earthen clay to manufactured modeling clays like Plasticine, and other types of air-dry based clay. Fired in a kiln, clay hardens to a lasting durability. For this introductory series of classes, we will be using Air-Dry Clay for the convenience of the work drying hard in the air not needing to be processed in the kiln. Check out the weekly projects and materials needed in the syllabus. There are 4 projects in this course, and it can be completed on a schedule that fits your needs. As this is a self-paced course with no live meetings with me, you can focus on one project a week that will span a month, or you can complete more quickly. If you need to contact me with any questions, please email me and I will try to get back to you within a week.
Learning Goals
